Established in 1928, the Auburn Ski Club is a nonprofit that built the first engineered ski jump in the West and helped lobby California to keep Highway 40 open in winter, ushering in the state's modern ski era. Its nonprofit Auburn Ski Club Training Center on Donner Summit is one of the few combined alpine, Nordic, biathlon, and snowboard training centers in the country.
